And even if you want adamantium weapons and have to unlock 3 stage 2 techs (where i ask myself how you solve earlygame challanges proftible without) you have a like 8 turn reasearch time on said adamtium rockets. If you reach a state where your current tier 4 techs have a reasonable researchtime stage 2 techs should be a one turner. I feel if you recalculate there isn't a real turnloss by catching up tiers lategame. I think this is the biggest argument against your proposal. I my point of view, you would be pretty much drawn to this or have the feeling to "do it wrong". With your idea its possible to just tech for the corvettes and then rush another tree, like the very mighty science it industry tree to get to the next level of shipdesignes or the better techs of the development tree. Most techs aren't very relevan't which is why i believe you find the shipdesignes there to not forgo this tree entirely until lategame. The empire development quadrant for example is "the weakest" of its kind. Then there is the possible problem that your idea may cause "the only vaible techorder" while i feel the current system is designed almost soley to prevent this. In my first session this system felt very weird, but to be honest, its very rewarding for your skills to determine what is profitable the most or in other words, what you need the most. Its always a question of do i need to do one thing as soon as possible, or can it wait and i get two new goodies instead. In my 150 hours i spent on this game so far i often find myself wanting to be able to colonize two additional planettypes rather than to be able to mine adamantium for example. While i get your point that a very advanced sector of science, like a well developed industry-sector, should eneable you to jump in like military technology, i think this system isn't much desireable.įirst, the build in threshholds of cost difference between tiers naturaly draw you to hold on rushing one quadrant down and makes it more profitable to keep up with the other quadrants. This would open up more interesting possibilities of research for players and remove the feeling of having to keep a quadrant you are not very much focused on this gameplay session up to date on tech. Got to stage 5 in Empire Development, Economy, and Science ? You should be able to research techs from stage 4 in the Military quadrant. You've reached stage 3 in Military, Empire Development and Economy? You should be able to research techs from Stage 2 in Science and Exploration So here is my proposal: If you reach a technological stage in 3 of the 4 tech quadrants, you should be able to research tech for the previous stage in the remaining quadrant. But I still miss the sense of a general advancement that the older tech model had. It's fine, I don't have a huge issue with the tech web and people seemed to like the change. Long ago the EL inspired tech model was abandoned for the tech web that is present now. It's like you achieve a general sense of tech progress and therefore your society is moving along as a whole. One of the things I really like about research in Endless legend (and the early beta of ES2) is that it is setup in a way that you can skip parts of it for some time without a huge penalty in the future.įor instance: you want to to focus on economy and don't research anything in military on Era I? that's fine, you will still be able access to military tech from Era II.
